Barcelona is calling!

Just a few more weeks and we will be roaming the streets of Europe, marveling at some of the worlds most wonderful architecture. I can still remember my first time in Barcelona 16 years ago like it was yesterday. I was absolutely enthralled by the stunning designs and creations of Antoni Gaudi.

I have just rented a great apartment at the end of July, right in the heart of the Old City of Barcelona, where I will meet one of my oldest friends, who I haven’t seen in years, and together we will wonder and marvel at everything Barcelona has to offer. I cant express how excited I am. It’s is going to be truly inspirational.

Gaudi the Modernista Architect

Gaudi’s work was influenced bu his passions in life: architecture, nature and religion. He considered every detail of his creations and integrated into his architecture such crafts as ceramics, stained glass, wrought iron forging and carpentry.

‘Under the influence neo gothis art and Oriental techniques, Gaudí became part of the Modernista movement which was reaching its peak in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His work transcended mainstream Modernisme, culminating in an organic style inspired by natural forms. Gaudí rarely drew detailed plans of his works, instead preferring to create them three dimensional scale models and molding the details as he conceived them.’ See more information on Gaudi here.

I can’t wait to share with you some live images of his masterpieces.  The still-uncompleted Sagrada Família, pictured here is the most-visited monument in Spain. Next photo will have me standing in front of it! Not long to go now.
